Finland ranks among the three strongest health technology economies in the world. It also has one of the best public healthcare systems in the world.

Public Healthcare

Public healthcare is available to all permanent residents in Finland regardless of their financial situation. Turku residents are welcome to use the services of the Turku Welfare Division, which covers emergency services, healthcare appointments, dental appointments and child welfare clinics.

The cost of public healthcare is subsidised by the state, but there usually remains a small charge payable for most services. Groups such as students or jobseekers are typically exempt. The current prices for healthcare centres in Turku can be found on the City website.

Private Healthcare

Permanent residents in Finland can also choose to pay for medical treatment from private healthcare providers, such as Mehiläinen or Terveystalo.

The private healthcare sector is growing and digitalizing as we speak. Compared to public services, private healthcare offers easier booking and shorter waiting times.

For most employees in a Finland-based company, specific occupational health care services are organized by the employer. Check with your employer which services are available for you.
