Application for International Degree Programmes Now Open – University of Turku Offers Three New Bachelor’s Degrees

The international degree programmes offered by the University of Turku can be applied to during the joint application period on 8–22 January 2020. This application round includes the Master’s Degree programmes offered in English as well as the new Bachelor’s Degree programmes in education, also offered in English. Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Information and Communication Technology is also open for application.

In the joint application procedure, the applicant can apply to a maximum of six different study programmes with a single form. Furthermore, the applicant can apply to a maximum of three different study programmes offered by the University of Turku. For the University of Turku, the greatest change brought by the shift in the application procedure concerns the application period: instead of approximately two months, it is now two weeks.

Finnish Teacher Training Globally Valued

As a novelty, the programmes offered in English by the University of Turku now also include Bachelor’s Degree programmes. The new, three-year Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Early Childhood Teacher Education as well as the 3+2-year Degree Programme in Primary Teacher Education start in the Department of Teacher Education at the Rauma campus of the University of Turku in the autumn. The latter includes a Master’s Degree Programme taught at the Turku campus. The Programme in Early Childhood Teacher Education provides the graduates with the competence to work as an early childhood teacher, whereas the Programme in Primary Teacher Education provides them with the competence to work as a primary school teacher.

Also starting in the autumn, the Faculty of Science and Engineering offers a Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Information and Communication Technology which is applied to through separate application. The application period for this programme ends on 15 May. The same application period also applies to the Master’s Degree Programme in Software Engineering offered at the University’s campus in Namibia.

Head of Admission Services of the University of Turku Mari Kähkönen tells that the new Bachelor’s Degrees offered in English respond to the growing demand for study programmes in English.

– The Finnish teacher training is globally well-known and appealing to the foreign applicants. Moreover, there is a great demand for study programmes in information technology, so it is fantastic that in the future, we can offer the education already at the Bachelor’s level, Kähkönen comments.
